Hurricane Irma was more than an Atlantic storm. It was a force of nature that has forever changed the landscape of Southwest Florida and the very lives that lived and perished in her path. Not everyone was fortunate to endure downed trees and no electricity and running water for days that felt like months. Many of our SWFL neighbors lost everything and are still awaiting help. Many are seeking a hot meal and cold water, salvaging whatever they can in the ruble they used to call home and needing basic supplies for their loved ones. The spectrum of needs is infinite.It is our responsibility as SWFL residents to embrace our community and offer a lending hand. Join us on our crusade to help rebuild SWFL. See below a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Ft. Myers and Lehigh Acres.

 

Meals of Hope

Help us pack meals for the hungry! Join Meals of Hope as we pack healthy and nutritious meals for those who will go hungry because of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. This event is limited to 400 participants and guarantees a great morning. Red Cross 

Needs Kitchen Volunteers to cook, clean, & load meals to mobile units. They are serving 3,500 meals a day and need 40 volunteers each day to cover their 4 locations. Shifts are 9-noon, noon – 5pm or All day Wear closed toe shoes, hat and long pants. ECHO 

Echo is in need of volunteers to help clear debris so power company can gain access to the property.  Helpers needed to prepare food/bring food for volunteers and staff, path clearing, debris removal, and tree staking in orchards. Youth 14+ can volunteer with an adult. Wear durable shoes, long pants, hat, bring an extra shirt, water bottle to refill fluids,snacks, lunch if you can bring one and sun screen. We will meet at 8:30AM Tuesday-Friday at the AG shop. You can volunteer any number hours. Please sign up online @ www.echonet.org/volunteer choose hurricane clean up. LEE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT & NATIONAL GAURD

Volunteers need to help hand out basic needs at points of distribution sites.  Please email jdiamond@leegov.com with your availability between 9/17-9/22 with you name, phone number, and email.  Dress comfortably and bring a hat, sunscreen, and wear close toed shoes.

The Rotary Club of Bonita Springs

In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the local Rotary Clubs in Estero, Bonita Springs and North Naples are undertaking a large project to help cleanup homes in the flooded areas of our communities to prepare them to be rebuilt. We are looking for volunteers to help with the project, as well as supplies. Work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday. All Southwest Floridians are eligible for assistance from FEMA, and anyone can begin the signup process at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Registration can also take place by phone at 1-800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Have the following information handy when you sign up:

• Social Security number • Address of the location where the damage occurred (pre-disaster address) • Current mailing address • Current telephone number • Insurance information • Total household annual income • Routing and account number for your checking or savings account (this allows FEMA to directly transfer disaster assistance funds into your bank account). • A description of your disaster-caused damage and losses
